1922 "Favorites Of The Screen"
calendar,
featuring silent film star ETHEL CLAYTON
!!
Please see all
three
photos, as they are an important part of my description. Found at a local estate, this
rare
century-old calendar measures approximately 10" x 5 3/8", constructed of thicker and textured cardboard stock. The color-tinted photograph of silent movie actress
Ethel Clayton
measures approximately 4 3/4" x 3 1/2", and is affixed to the calendar along the top edge; when you peel the photo back (see 2nd pic), it reveals the identifying
"Favorites Of The Screen"
theme, followed by "SM 12261". Directly underneath the bottom edge of the photo in embossed (raised) letters, it identifies the calendar's maker:
Thomas D. Murphy Co.
This wonderful and stylish vintage calendar also features advertising along the lower portion, for the
"B.B. Buell & Co. Kitchens"
(for Hotels, Ships, Institutions, Camps) in
Seattle, Washington
. This calendar is for the month of January, 1922
only
. <>Note: my first and third photos were taken on a scanner (where the calendar's colors are more accurate and true), while the middle pic was taken with a digital camera.

History
:
Ethel Clayton
was an American actress of the silent film era. She was born in Champaign, Illinois. Clayton debuted on stage as a professional as a member of the chorus in a production at the Chicago Opera House. Afterwards, she worked with stock theater companies. Clayton also appeared in musical revues such as The Ziegfield Follies of 1911. Clayton's first film was "When The Earth Trembled", and made her feature-length debut in "For The Love Of A Girl" in 1912. Clayton was directed by such big names as William Demille, Robert Vignola, George Melford and Donald Crisp. Like many silent film actors, Clayton's career was hurt by the coming of sound to motion pictures. Ethel Clayton married silent film actor Ian Keith twice, and they divorced twice. Clayton has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
