River Otter Carving - Wood Like WAX Sculpture - Realistic Animal Figurine SIGNED. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS First Class.
This is a really unique piece. It’s a masterfully carved river otter signed by the artist. When I bought it I was sure that it was wood. It is dense and heavy and looks exactly like old wood. After handling it several times I began to wonder though. It has a waxy feel to it and upon trying a finger nail I was able to leave a mark with my nail. I have to assume it is some type of wax like material. It is definitely hand carved and not mechanically made. The signature reads S Zammil or S Zammit 1990 I believe. I was unable to find any information on the carver. It is amazingly realistic looking. It was made to represent an otter floating on its back I believe. Hence I’ve displayed it laid down on its back. It doesn’t stand up without being propped against something as I have in the photos. You can also display it that way too. If you had a small shell or miniature fish you could slip it between the otters paws to make it look like he was eating, as they do in this position in nature. The eyes appear to be glass. The carving is about 7” long. It is in good condition minus a. Pulled scratches and dings. It appears there may be a little sticker residue on its back but you never see the back. You could clean this off with a damp cloth probably if you wish. I will ships ASAP! Thanks
