Description
This cast iron calendar holder was patented in 1906 by F. A. Hale of Chicago and claims improvements in the “Standards for desk calendars.”A copy of the patent letters and drawings can be found by Googling "Patent US 813553"
The piece is designed to accept loose leaf calendar or note pages which are held in place by a removable double arch similar to clipboards of this era.
The item was manufactured by the Defiance Mfg. Co. of Rochester, NY, makers of a wide range of office devices, others of which I have in separate listings.
The arches measure 2 1/8” tall and are 2” on center.
The cavity for the calendar/note pages is 3 1/8” wide.
The overall length of the holder is 8 3/8”.
The surfaces of the piece have light rust in places but it would be an easy job to restore.
