    Description

    For your consideration is this First Official Coinage of the British Virgin Islands.  On June 30, 1973 in honor of the 200th anniversary of constitutional government with representation, the Legislative Council of the British Virgin Islands issued its first official coinage.  The subject for these historic coins were the exotic birds of the Islands.  Gilroy Roberts, the renowned artist and sculptor was commissioned to render the designs for the new coinage.  This set is made up of 6 coins.  The dollar is solid sterling silver, the one 1c is bronze all the others are cupro-nickel.
